To Tattoo or too Taboo

I have always loved tattoos, but I was brought up in an age when it was taboo and it was really just something an outlaw would get, and MUCH MUCH less something a woman would!!

I remember as a kid low-key admiring the artistry and that they just looked so cool! The nicely, tastefully done ones of course. but it’s subjective and what could be nice looking to me may not be for someone else.

As I grew up, they started becoming more acceptable, and I knew one day I would get one, and it really didn’t matter to me what anyone thought. I ended up leaving my twenties very undecided what to get and where (where on my body and what studio/artist).

Fast forward present time, I decided this was the decade!! I’m super happy I waited as now I have been able to incorporate more personal things in the tattoo designs.

Tattoos are now not only much more prevalent, but the quality and artistry of them look so much more beautiful!! I’m the first woman in my family to get tattooed and, I love them. Yes THEM. I thought it would be just one I would get, but I now have several. I’ve said I’m done, but I know I could maybe do one(?) more! Despite the pain, they can be somewhat addictive!!

That's something you have to keep in mind when considering a tattoo is, how is your pain tolerance. They are not the most comfortable, and it also depends where on your body you place them. I had heard that your wrist would hurt, but found that that wasn't so bad. During one session I even took a quick nap! I know there are some sort of numbing creams and sprays, but to me it was better to experience the pain and not having the numbing wear off and be in more pain afterwards.

I will say that my skin healed very quickly as well. I think everyone will have a different experience. I also didn't experience much itching with any of the tattoos. The third day had mild itching for a few hours, and minor scabbing. I think it was two or two and a half weeks of what I would say was my healing process. Although you have to be very diligent with keeping them clean and moisturized so that helps! I also had no bleeding. The vibes and energy in the sessions helped too.

There are so many styles out there and you could spend hours reading about them and looking at pictures!

Some of the styles I have seen that are popular now are: Realism, Tribal, Fine Line, Japanese, Black & Gray, and Chicano, but there are so many more, so do your research!

It's so ironic that for many cultures tattoos have a negative connotation , and yet for others, such as the Polynesian and Maori cultures, they are regarded with spiritual significance.

Definitely do your research and make sure you go to a clean, reputable place. A chill tattoo artist also helps! I have had all mine (I won’t say how many) done by the same artist as I like his style, and his vibe. Email me or DM on Instagram if you’d like the contact information of the artist I have gone to.

Tattoos are such a personal journey, and now there is laser removal if you ever need to remove them. At the end of the day, just be careful what you put on your body so that you don’t waste your money. Although sometimes you'll even forget that you have them!

Wishing you happy searching and happy Inking!!
